I thought only dogs got Parvo

So we took our youngest daughter to the ER last night. We expected to be told that we were overreacting but because I was recently hospitalized because of an allergic reaction we took no chances. She had a fast developing rash and it just seemed too strange to ignore.

The doctor said was it was some kind of viral thing. She had the rash (that had partly faded like symptoms always seem to do when telling a doctor how bad they are), and a fever of 101. He also said it might be “fifth disease.” That is the nice way of saying Human Parvovirus B19. Parvo.

I knew a dog once that had Parvo and it was rough. Now my daughter has parvo. Immediately, I realized that my retirement plan was in jeopardy. This doc said it was nothing to worry about. Humph. I did what any modern-day concerned parent would do… I turned to the internet to clarify what this ‘doctor’ was telling me. I didn’t want to waste any time so I went right to the source and looked up “Parvo” in google.

This picture is what I found under Parvo. It is worse than I thought.

I will be starting a fund in the near future to help out my daughter’s immediate family in their ongoing battle. Please forward this to all your friends so they will know the horror of Parvo and dig deep. I think her symptoms might be relieved with a new plasma TV and perhaps a hot tub.
