the real threat

I think I need to start off by identifying what could be the greatest threat to humanity in the next 100 years. I know everybody has used this as a means to advance their cause. “End global warming,” “Terrorist will take over the world,” “globalization will ruin everything” all have a resonating theme that we are all getting sick of. However, there is a looming danger that we must prepare for…

A few days ago, the world media has reported in television and radio broadcasts that scientists have discovered a “earth-like” planet only 20 light-years from earth. Neat. Wow. This sounds like a nice bit of news that can distract us all from bad news of the day. Unfortunately, the media put it out there for everyone to hear and as you read the message is speeding toward that distant planet at the speed of light. In 20 years, they will know that we know that they are out there!

Consider this a “call-to-arms” fellow inhabitants of earth. We only have twenty years to put aside all of our petty differences and prepare ourselves for the upcoming intergalactic war with our new extraterrestrial foes. Any time after that is bonus time and is only possible if the inhabitants of this “earth-like” planet have not broken the light-barrier. Of course we won’t know what military capabilities these new foes will bring to the fight so we should prepare for every contingency we can imagine. Dig tunnels! Protect the crops! Militarize and defend the moon! Guard the sperm banks! Stockpile ammo and stop wasting it on each other!
